COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This 4-part self-paced instructional course covers topics that are pertinent in pelvic health from an evidence-based perspective. Module 1 covers relevant anatomy and basic physiology of the pelvic floor and lumbopelvic regions that can impact urinary/fecal incontinence, bladder and bowel health and pelvic pain. Module 2 includes conservative interventions that can be applied to the pelvic floor and its supportive structures. Module 3 covers pertinent topics in men’s pelvic health and Module 4 covers the topic of osteoporosis.

COURSE OBJECTIVES BY MODULE:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Module 1: Pelvic Floor and Lumbopelvic Anatomy/Physiology

• Provide a brief introduction to the anatomy of the core & pelvic floor
• Discuss the importance of screening patients for pelvic floor dysfunction
• Demonstrate evidence-based assessments of the pelvic floor and lumbopelvic regions

Module 2: Pelvic Health Interventions

– Identify key manual therapy strategies utilizing IASTM and manual techniques that can be applied to a patient with pelvic pain or dysfunction.

– Identify a functional breathing pattern that can lead to effective pressure management control.

– Identify effective exercise strategies that can be applied to a patient with pelvic pain or dysfunction.

Module 3: Men’s Pelvic Health

• Review anatomy of the male pelvis (individual who identifies himself as a male/has a penis)

• Review pelvic health issues
• Introduce a male pelvic health screening instrument
• Identify key intervention pelvic health strategies utilizing IASTM and manual techniques and exercise strategies that can be applied to a patient who identifies as a male/has a penis  
• Discuss a case study of a patient with longstanding proximal hamstring tendinopathy/concurrent pelvic floor dysfunction

Module 4: Osteoporosis

• Define osteoporosis and identify its symptoms and how it is diagnosed
• Identify common treatment strategies for osteoporosis that can be utilized by healthcare and fitness professionals
• Review the evidence-based guidelines for osteoporosis treatment focusing on manual therapy, exercise, activity modification/fall risk reduction
